Everything Papeliz does at launch
Papeliz is in development. This page lists what the first public release includes; the last section lists what comes after it.
Your vault, on your disk
A vault is just a folder of Markdown files. Papeliz opens it where it is and writes back to it.
- Plain .md files
- No database and no special format. Your notes open in any other Markdown app too.
- Open a folder
- Pick a folder in Chrome or Edge. Papeliz remembers it and asks again for access when you come back.
- A sample vault
- Try Papeliz on a set of linked example notes before you open your own.
- File explorer
- Browse, filter, create and rename notes. Deleted notes move to the vault’s own .trash folder.
- Leaves other apps alone
- Hidden folders, such as another app’s settings folder, are never written.
- Autosave
- Changes are saved to disk as you type.
MD Code
The raw Markdown, laid out like a code editor, so your file stays exactly as you wrote it.
- Syntax colors and line numbers
- Headings, links, frontmatter and wikilinks are easy to tell apart.
- Link as you type
- Type [[ to pick another note from your vault.
- Find and replace
- Search inside the note and replace one match or all of them.
- Undo per note
- Each open note keeps its own undo history.
MD View
The rendered note, one switch away from MD Code.
- GitHub-flavored Markdown
- Tables, task lists, strikethrough and fenced code.
- Wikilinks and tags
- [[Links]] open the note they name, and #tags stand out.
- Properties and callouts
- YAML frontmatter shows as property chips; > [!note] blocks show as callouts.
- Safe by default
- Every note is sanitized before display, so a note can never run code in the page.
An assistant that edits
Docked beside your note. It reads, searches and proposes changes; you decide what is saved.
- Answers that cite your notes
- Ask about a note, a selection or the whole vault. Answers link to the notes they draw on.
- Edits as diffs
- Every change the assistant proposes shows as a diff. Accept writes the file; Reject drops it.
- Inline edits
- Select text for Shorter, Rewrite, Fix grammar or Translate, right where you are writing.
- Links and tags across notes
- Ask for link and tag suggestions over many notes, then review each change.
- Backlinks and outline
- See which notes link here, and jump between the headings of a long note.
Your key, your provider
Bring an API key from the provider you like. It stays on your device.
- Any OpenAI-compatible provider
- Pick a preset, or paste any compatible base URL, hosted or running on your own machine.
- No Papeliz server
- Requests go straight from your device to your provider. Papeliz never sees your key or your notes.
- You see what is sent
- Each message shows which notes go with it. Nothing leaves until you send it.
Focus mode
Just your note and a floating prompt box, with answers above it.
- One shortcut in, one out
- Ctrl+Shift+F hides the file explorer and the panels; Esc brings them back.
After launch
Planned for later and not scheduled yet. The roadmap shows the order.
- Graph view and canvas
- Offline install
- Firefox and Safari, with a vault stored in the browser
- A passphrase lock for your keys
- Translations
- Math, diagrams and code highlighting in MD View
